Vacationing like George Clooney at Lake Como or Lake Como

at Lake Como

There are two Lake Como’s that I have visited.  One of them is in Italy and the other is in the Bitterroot Range in Montana.  Can you guess at which of these two lakes I say George Clooney.  Listen, Montana is one of the most beautiful places in the world.  I know because I lived there.

But, alas, it is not the place where one would have a casual encounter with nicely maturing Hollywood heartthrob Mr. Clooney.  Look, I’m not one of those Hollywood gossip people, so I really don’t wish to say much about the encounter with Mr. Clooney.  Suffice it to say that he is almost just as handsome in real life as he is on the big screen.  But, much to my delight, he is just as charming in real life.  So, if you guessed that the encounter was at Lake Como Italy, then you’re right.  And if Lake Como is good enough for Mr. Clooney to own a fabulous villa at, then certainly it is worth a visit.

My wife has spent considerable time in Rome, but we leave Rome for another time.  She just loves Rome.  I’m cut of a little different cloth.  I am just as much at home in my Carhartt overalls as I am in my Armani suits.  But, both of us enjoy the Opera.  She having trained as a musician has an insight that I can only see from a distance.  Nonetheless we share in the pleasure of the art.

So, you can just imagine brilliant modern-Victorian setting of the CastaDiva Resort at Lake Como Italy.  The mansion Villa Roda, the former home of 19th century opera diva Giuditta Pasta, is the magnificent centerpiece of the resort.

In her day, she hosted many luminaries including Bellini, Rossini and Stendhal.  So what a delight it was to be at this villa.

This is a gilded place, taking you into the world of Pasta in her gilded age.  Though I have some doubts that even Ms. Pasta dinned as well as we did L’Orangerie, the resort’s restaurant.
