What do you get when you combine German efficiency, alpine monastic charm, and world class luxury?
One of world’s best spa resorts
Whether you want tango or tai chi, naked yoga or a hike, this 1916 former monastic château is your getaway.
Last year out niece earned scholarship to study in Germany. Needless to say that my wife and I decided to visit her to lend some family support. You know the kind of family support that involves an excellent spa vacation. Actually, it wasn’t all that selfish since we happily took her with us to the incredible Schloss Elmau hotel and spa.
We picked this resort because of the sheer diversity in experiences offered. Since we are all avid outdoors people, who also love to be spoiled and pampered, the spa offered extensive opportunities to satisfy are desires. The days that we didn’t spend exploring the glorious Bavarian surroundings were spent indoors relaxing in the spa(s), lounges, and libraries.
The resort itself is huge and the programs and activities offered are endless–one almost needs a GPS and personal tour guide and concierge to learn about all that is offered; but after a day or so one’s sense of direction (and adventure) is restored. The resort does a great job in letting guests choose their experience and set their own ambiance — casual or elegant, active or relaxing. A place that is as family-friendly as it is romantic.

Restaurants offered a delectable menu–again, with endless options… Yoga and Tai Chi programs were offered daily, boasting a great repertoire of courses.
