According to the “Maya Long Calendar,” December 12th, 2012 will bring about the end of a major temporal cycle known as Baktun. Of course in the pop-culture we also know this as one of the many predicted days of the end of the world. Well heck, if that’s going to have then I certainly want to get in another vacation. But, really did you also know that this “ending” is also followed by the beginning of a new era… hopefully one in which we can offer each other more peace and love. To make this occasion, President Felipe Calderon and launched “Mundo Maya 2012,” a program to showcase the magic of the Maya civilization in Chiapas and neighboring states. The plan is to restore older archaeological sites and open new ones to the public. And of course there will be parties; the government is promoting concerts, dance festivals, and theatrical performances.
But, you don’t have to wait for another year to enjoy the hidden adventures in Chiapas Mexico. From cliff diving, rainforest zip-lining, to rappelling down turquoise waterfalls, Chiapas is only a two and half hour flight from Houston, TX.
If you want to set away from the ordinary and into the extraordinary, Chiapas offers you the both solitude and adventure. Chiapas is far from popular and crowed beach resorts where most travel. Yet this amazing place offer far more; undiscovered treasures, a rich ancient history, friendly people, and a wealth of sensory pleasures from exquisite art to tantalizing food.
